Luan’s Girls Dress Shop Says, “Goodbye”
A treasured Bixby Knolls tradition comes to an end after 62 years. Luan’s, a boutique girls dress shop closes its doors. The store was found in 1952 by Luan’s mother, Marion, but Luan took it over in 1982. She said she was raised to run the store, and now she is ready to retire.
The store was one of kind. Luan sold classic dresses for every special occasion, and they never went out of style. The dresses were beautiful, and the customer service was exceptional. Not only would Luan help little girls find the perfect party dress, she would press it before it left the store.
Just like the unique dress shop, so is the neighborhood Luan’s called home. Bixby Knolls is also one of a kind. It connects North Long Beach to the North, California Heights to the South East, and Wrigley to the South West. There are several small retail shops and restaurants down Atlantic Blvd., a main artery through Bixby Knolls.
The neighborhood is also home to the Historic Rancho Los Cerritos , a historic site, and one of the oldest gated communities in Long Beach, Los Cerritos – Virginia Country Club.
The Virginia Country Club was established in 1906, and the streets are lined with 700 homes. Many of them are estate sized custom built houses. The neighborhood was one of three finalist in the 2007 Neighborhood of the Year Awards, a national championship in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The homes are amazing, and are often sought after by the film industry. Did you know? In 1985, a home on Country Club Drive was used as the “Bueller Home” in the 1986 comedy film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Drive through the streets of Bixby Knolls and step back in time to a place filled with history and rich traditions. The beautiful homes reflect true elegance and style. If you are searching for a home in 90807, there are many to choose from.
