You may have noticed more rows of bright blue bikes parked around Long Beach as the Bike Share program continues to grow.
The city’s Bike Share program allows you to rent bikes at on-street stations with a credit card and return them to another location near your destination. The initial rollout began in March 2016 in the downtown and shoreline areas and expanded from there with an expected 500 bikes system-wide by this spring.
You can locate and reserve a bike either via the Social Bicycles App, which is available for Androids and iPhones, or via the system map at www.LongBeachBikeShare.com.
For occasional users or visitors, you can either pay $3.50 per 30 minutes, with a 1 hour minimum, or $21 for 3 hours, with an additional hour for free. Locals have two plans to choose from, a $15 monthly basic plan, which provides you with 60 minutes of daily ride time, or a $20 monthly plus plan, which provides you with 90 minutes of daily ride time. Any riding minutes beyond what’s included in the plan is charged at the Pay as You Go rates.
The bikes come with baskets and can be locked to other bike racks if you make stops between the stations. For more information on the Bike Share program, you can contact 562.786.8400. The Bike Share program is part of an overall effort to create a bicycle-friendly environment in Long Beach.
