Owning a home is as American as baseball and apple pie. First time home owners Jerrud and Lauden were looking for a home with character and charm that was walking distance to shops and restaurants. They found just that when they purchased their first home in the quaint neighborhood of Carroll Park in Long Beach, Ca.

Carroll Park is situated just south of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and wine bars along 4th Street Retro Row, just north of the popular Broadway corridor, Bluff Park and the beach.
Carroll Park was the first planned housing tract in Long Beach. It was originally constructed by John Carroll between 1898 and 1923. The unique circular layout looks almost like two figure eights. The two eights are connected in the center by the Park. The park was designated as a historic landmark itself in 1982. The homes in this Historic District are mostly Craftsman Bungalows. This style of house was originally built between 1900-1930. The typical home was 1-2 stories with low pitched roofs, and open floor plans. A unique feature inside was the handcrafted built-in cabinetry usually buffets and bookcases. First true Craftsman homes in California were designed by architects Greene & Greene. There are twelve original homes and three original barns still standing today. There are also 75 homes that predate 1940. The design of this tract secludes this neighborhood unlike any other in the city. The boundaries include 4th street to the North, 3rd Street to the South, Junipero to the West, and Wisconsin to the East.
The key to success when buying your first home is to trust the experts. Let them do their jobs. It is imperative to select an experienced local real estate agent. Jerrud and Lauden worked with Monica Hirtreiter with The Shannon Jones Team because she is an excellent resource of information and is very familiar with Long Beach. She can easily explain tax benefits of owning your home, the process of buying a home, and why a home inspection is essential. Most importantly, she is a savvy negotiator.
