Learn more about Old Lakewood City
Though technically this neighborhood is known as Old Lakewood City, many of the folks who live here probably think of it simply as “East Long Beach.” Its borders are made up of Lakewood Blvd. to the west, Woodruff Ave. to the east, Carson St. to the north, and Conant St. to the south. It is surrounded by Lakewood Village, Carson Park, South of Conant, and the Long Beach Airport. This neighborhood features homes that were primarily built in the 1950s. These homes were generally either 2- or 3-bedroom and ranged from about 900-1,250 square feet. Many homes have gone through various remodels and additions over the years. Housing styles are almost indistinguishable from those found in nearby Lakewood. Within the boundaries of this neighborhood lies most of Heartwell Park (the other part of it falls within the Carson Park boundaries), which features a fishing pond, playground, fitness course, and the Ruth Bach Library. Also in the area is the Long Beach City College Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. Long Beach City College is just on the other side of Carson Street to the north.
