Get to Know the New Long Beach Post

Have you been noticing more robust local reporting coming from the Long Beach Post recently? We have, and we are loving all of the hyperlocal coverage that our city is finally receiving. The publication is under new ownership and the editorial team over there is ready and eager to spread the latest news coming out of Long Beach.

Who Are the New Owners

The investment group Pacific6, backed by former Molina Healthcare CEO John Molina, purchased the Long Beach Post, and it was Molina who had the idea to shift the focus of the paper to be exclusively Long Beach. It’s actually quite surprising that it’s taken so long for Long Beach to get our very own publication. We are the second largest city in LA County and the seventh largest in the entire state of California—we definitely deserve high quality reporting about what’s going on in our city.

An Award-Winning Editorial Team

The Post has plans to quadruple their editorial and business staff with intentions of employing the largest newsroom in the whole city. One exciting addition to the team is veteran columnist Tim Grobaty who had been writing for the Press Telegram for 42 years. Brian Addison, former Post editor and award-winning Long Beach writer will also be joining the team. According to their website, they are honored to have the entire existing Post team stay onboard with this new venture. Dennis Dean, Stephanie Rivera, Asia Morris, and Jason Ruiz have all agreed to remain with the Long Beach Post under this new ownership and new direction.

A Commitment to Reporting with Integrity

There is a newly formed local company called Pacific Community Media that will be operating the Post. It is a Long Beach-based community investment and development firm that’s made up of six local partners, and they are investing millions of dollars into the community. Publisher David Sommers wants to make clear, however, that there will be no special reporting on the group and their work with the city. They will be reported on just like any other corporation or business would be. “Nothing is more important to the Long Beach Post than our integrity — our legitimacy comes from you, our readers, and from the community we serve,” Sommers states on their website.

What the Long Beach Post is Reporting On

When you visit their website you will find the following sections: News, Life, Business, Place, LGBTQ, Sports, and Commentary. They also have a Staff Blog, Reading List, Tipline, And Things to Do section. Some examples of what they will be reporting on include local politics, the City Council, sports, food, the state of the Queen Mary. Follow them on social media and you will see all of their features stories shared on multiple platforms as well.

The change in leadership and the exciting additions to the editorial staff are already evident. All of the content is representative of Long Beach, and that’s exactly what we deserve and have been lacking. We are grateful that the team at the Long Beach Post is so dedicated to covering our city, and looking forward to the future of this growing media outlet.
