24 Hours in Long Beach
Summer is here and it’s not too late to plan a Long Beach Staycation, or a mini vacation in your hometown. Just 24 hours and you will become reacquainted with the beach city you call home. A perfect time to be a tourist and experience a new restaurant, dance the night away, let someone else make your bed and deliver you breakfast on a tray.
Long Beach is beautiful waterfront city that embodies the cool chill vibe of a beach town, yet it boasts sophisticated big city amenities. A true melting pot of cultures. With that said… Let’s discover what Long Beach has to offer in just 24 hours.
Day One – A Saturday in July
1:00pm Arrive at the Carpenter Center
Sit back and enjoy an afternoon matinée of Singin in the Rain, based on the MGM film about two silent film actors making the transition into talking films. A wonderful production performed by Musical Theater West. A premier Southern California Musical Theater Company that brings the best of Broadway to your backyard. They blend both professional actors from Broadway, Hollywood, and national tours along with the best local talent. Start your staycation off off Broadway at the beautiful Carpenter Center located on the California State University Long Beach campus.
3:30pm Stroll through Peaceful Japanese Gardens
After enjoying a fabulous musical, stay on the CSULB campus, and stretch your legs while walking through the beautiful Earl Burns Miller Japanese Gardens. It is 1.3 acres of lush landscape and a hybrid of art forms.
You will see typical elements of a traditional Japanese garden including exotic flowers, extremely manicured trees, and a Koi pond full of colorful fish.
5:00pm Early Dinner Reservations at the “hot spot” Restauration
Restauration, a farm to table restaurant located on 4th Street in the trendy Retro Row. Dine in a hip urban backyard setting. It is a comfortable yet sophisticated patio with elegant lighting, vertical gardens, and a wood-burning oven baking the best pizzas and fresh fruit galettes in town. They offer American cuisine that highlights locally sourced and responsibly grown seasonal items. Homemade pates, pickles, and chips are guaranteed to please. There is something for everyone… Roasted Brussels sprouts with roasted corn and red bell pepper, braised short ribs with Ricotta gnocchi, Manila clams with Chorizo and Fingerling potatoes, and an assortment of handmade pizzas.
Do not forget a vegetarian favorite – The 4th Street Falafel Burger. These are just a few of the creative dishes you will find along with a great selection of hand crafted beers and local wines by the glass or bottle.
6:30pm Check into your room with a view – Dockside Boat and Breakfast
Enjoy the life of the rich and famous for a night aboard a private yacht located in the majestic Rainbow Harbor. The yachts at Dockside Boat and Breakfast are moored on a private dock for your security and peace of mind.
Enjoy a relaxing retreat while watching the sun set on your private deck.
8:30pm Live Music and Dancing at the Sky Room
Put on your dancing shoes and relive a time from the past in a one of kind Art Deco Supper Club and Lounge. The nightly entertainment changes monthly showcasing genres of music ranging from Jazz piano to 7-piece orchestras.
Step outside onto the gorgeous Sky Room patio and be mesmerized by the breath taking panoramic views of the city.
End the evening with a night cap and decadent dessert. House favorites include vanilla bean crème brulee and homemade chocolate ganache cake.
9:00am Breakfast is delivered to your yacht
Brew a pot of coffee and enjoy pastries and yogurt while breathing in the fresh salt air. Pack your bags and get ready to be rejuvenated.
11am Check your stress at the door at La Dolce Vita Day Spa
Enjoy one of the many services offered at this two-time MyFoxLa Hot List winner for best day spa. Nestled inside a downtown historic building it boasts a serene outdoor garden as well as four separate treatment rooms. There a many individual and couple packages especially designed to promote health and relaxation. La Dolce Vita Spa services include facials, massages, wraps, and manicures. (If you check on Groupon or Living Social, you may even find a deal on their services.)
1 pm Lunch is served on the sand overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the Belmont Brewing Company
The Belmont Brewing Company is Southern California’s oldest operating brew pub. A unique restaurant located at the entrance to the Belmont Pier serving award winning homemade beers and classic American fair with international twists.
Sample one or all of the great tasting suds including simple ales, clean blondes, hoppy pales and IPAs, balanced ambers, big stouts, fruit weizens, and spicy Belgians.
All the beers and wines by the glass or bottles compliment the extensive menu of beach town favorites; Hawaiian style poke, steamed mussels, fish and chips, and several interesting soups, salads, and sandwiches.
If you are not quite ready to end your Long Beach Staycation, then you can put your toes in the sand. Walk along beach while taking in the warm climate of Southern California.
