The Bluff Park neighborhood of Long Beach is one of the city’s most charming upscale neighborhoods, with a touch of vintage flair. It was designated as one of Long Beach’s Historic Districts in 1982. At the time, it was one of only two historic neighborhoods in Long Beach. Today, Bluff Park is a very popular neighborhood with an active neighborhood association and a rich history. The video below gives a brief overview of the neighborhood and shows off some gorgeous views.
Where is Bluff Park?
“Bluff Park” is named for the 25-acre park that runs along Ocean Boulevard overlooking the beach and the ocean beyond. The park itself is a popular spot for running or biking because of its view of the ocean. The neighborhood’s boundaries include Ocean Boulevard to the south and Junipero Avenue to the west. A jagged line between 2nd Street and Broadway marks the north boundary and Loma Avenue is on the east. Surrounding neighborhoods include Belmont Heights, Bluff Heights, and Alamitos Beach. Near Ocean Boulevard and Junipero, you can find old canons and the Lone Sailor Memorial statue. These are tributes to Long Beach’s Naval history.

Living in Bluff Park
Despite being in a big city, Bluff Park has the feel of a small town with wide tree-lined streets. It is a quiet area and neighbors are often seen outside walking dogs, playing with kids, and visiting with each other. Additionally, the neighborhood is in a great spot because of its proximity to both Belmont Shore and Downtown Long Beach. So Bluff Park residents are able to live in a quiet neighborhood but have busier spots nearby.
The very active neighborhood association helps promote a sense of community and preserves the historic character of the neighborhood.
Bluff Park Homes
Bluff Park consists mainly of single-family homes with some multi-family homes and condos. Most homes were built between 1903 and 1949 and feature a variety of architectural styles including Colonial Revival, Mediterranean, Tudor, and Prairie Style. However, Bluff Park is definitely known for its gorgeous Craftsman Bungalows that are a staple of the neighborhood.
Here at The Shannon Jones Team we love Craftsman Bungalows and have sold a number of them. To take a video tour of one of our Craftsman Bungalow listings, please watch the video below.

Points of Interest
Despite being a small neighborhood, Bluff Park has a number of points of interest. Here are a few.
Long Beach Sagely Monastery
This Buddhist Monastery was once a Roman Catholic convent. Some traces of the Roman Catholic past are still present, by request of the monks. For example, the large Mary On The Half-Shell sculpture and shrine on Ocean Boulevard. If you walk by the Monastery, you may even see the monks tending to the Virgin Mary or going about their days.
The Long Beach Museum of Art
The Long Beach Museum of Art is located right on Ocean Boulevard. The museum features a number of exhibits and consistently has new ones. One of the best features of the museum is its restaurant Claire’s at the Museum. The restaurant is outdoors and features stunning views of the ocean, the Queen Mary, and Catalina Island. You can also enjoy views of the sculpture garden. Additionally, the museum hosts events. So you can have an ocean view with your wedding or birthday party.
Dexter and Rita’s House
The popular Showtime show Dexter may have taken place in Miami, but a lot of its filming was actually done in Long Beach. In fact, Dexter and Rita’s house is located in Bluff Park! You can see other Long Beach filming locations here.
Bluff Park itself is very easily accessible to residents in this area. There are several staircases that allow easy access to the beach and to a 3.1-mile long bike path that runs from Alamitos Bay to Shoreline Village.
